Support Me

Hi! My name is Karson.   I am 9 years old and in the 4th grade at Byron Bergen Elementary School.  I enjoy playing video games, playing with friends and the one thing I enjoy the most is playing football.  I originally started to grow my hair out because my mom showed me a picture of when I was a toddler.  I had pretty long hair back then.  She told me how much she missed it.  I told her I would grow it out just like the picture. She didn’t think I would stick with it.  After a few months we saw a video on Tik-Tok about a girl who had no hair because of cancer.   I felt sad that the girl was sad.  She was being picked on because she looked different.  My mom told me that people can grown out their hair and when it gets long enough they can cut it, mail it in, and a wig will be made for any kid who is dealing with hair loss.  That was back in the summer of 2020. Two a half years later we are almost there.  I only have about 2 – 3 inches left to get to our goal.

It’s been a long journey.   I have had people mistake me as a girl, my mom having to brush out tangles every day.  Having to perfect the head flip every time I needed to get my hair out of my eyes.  And even finding ways to fit this mane under my football helmet.  My favorite part is my teammates and coaches asking me every day when I’m going to cut it.  I can’t wait to make it a big surprise.  Once we raise enough money to sponsor a child to receive a wig and once I get a few more inches that will be the day.

Thank you for helping me do something for someone else.  I am nervous that once I cut it no one will recognize me.  But that's ok because afterwards I plan on re-growing it again.   I hope to make someone happy as my hair has made the last few years a fun one!
