Wigs For Kids

I started growing out my hair several years ago and it is time to cut it. My journey for this started from just keeping it under a beanie to seeing how long it could go. When it started gaining length a friend told me I should look into Wigs For Kids whenever I decide to cut it. So that became my goal, to see how long it could go. My goal was to donate at least 16 inches. So the end of June is that time.

I have found a salon that is local that partners with Wigs For Kids. I’ve gotten the mane inspected and that is how I was able to set the time frame for the cut. I will say that it couldn’t have come at a better time. The heat is picking up, my hair is getting caught in things more often, and maintenance is becoming more of a chore. This has definitely been an interesting past few years with this. My whole life my hair has been fairly short, if not buzzed. Getting through the long awkward stage of my hair growth has always kept me from growing it. But once it got past that my hair has taken on a persona of its own and over the years a following of its own. The amount of people that have come up to me about my hair is beyond counting at this point. And just about that many don’t want it to go.

It is time though. However, I do want to say to all the women that have been in my life, I understand just one more struggle for you all. I still wish you would clean the roller in the vacuum or the drain in the shower, but I do understand how that happens so often now. I understand why dry shampoo is a thing even though I choose not to use it. I understand why not washing hair every day is a thing... and its not just because its bad for your hair. It takes so much time to wash and condition hair properly and so much product. It takes at least 12 hours to air dry it. If you decide to get your hair done a certain way, that takes so much effort and time, sometimes a lot of money too. Hair is such a big part of your lives and you all just seem to rock it, even when you don’t get the recognition you deserve for it.

FINALLY!! I want to say to everyone, please help donate something for this charity. Although I am donating a good chunk of hair, a lot more is needed per wig. The goal is for families to not have to pay for when their child needs a wig for what they’re going through. Share this with anybody you know. Even if you haven’t personally experience anyone who has gone through some sort of cancer treatment, burns, or any sort of condition. Just understand there are those that do and you may have friends or family that know someone who has. Please try to empathize with those who go through these hardships and help donate some money so its one less thing they have to worry about.

Thank you to all who read this and help out. Anything you do is appreciated.
