Fundraising Ideas to Help You Meet Your Goal
Thank you for taking the first step to hosting a fundraiser for Wigs for Kids. There are many different ways to raise funds, and to help us raise awareness along the way. Below are some examples of how others have helped to fundraise for Wigs for Kids.
Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

Wigs for Kids has made fundraising easy for you. By using this platform you can create your own fundraising page, set a goal, share your story (why have chosen to fundraise for Wigs for Kids), share pictures and/or a video, and reach out to people in your network. We suggest you do this by email and/or social media. If you would like, you can create a flyer about your fundraiser to distribute to individuals.
Read-a-Thon
- Use this online platform and create your very own fundraising page
- Determine your fundraising goal
- Use the email function to let people know you are hosting a Read-a-thon
- Commit to reading a certain number of books or pages
- Invite others to also get involved with your Read-a-thon - create a challenge for number of books or pages read
- Be sure to share your story- why you are supporting Wigs for Kids (is it in honor or memory of someone)
- Reach out to everyone in your network
- Use all of your social media platforms to share your fundraiser
- Share your progress along the way
- Thank your donors throughout your campaign
An example of this is Dalia whose good friend was diagnosed with Leukemia, she was very sad and wanted to make a difference. Dalia read 19 books and networked with friends and family raising over $3,000.
Pledges Per Inch
- Use this online platform and create your very own fundraising page and your fundraising
- Determine your fundraising goal
- If you are donating your hair collect pledges per inch of hair you are donating; share before and after pictures
- Form a team and get others involved- donating their hair and collecting pledges too
- Be sure to share your story- why you are supporting Wigs for Kids (is it in honor or memory of someone)
- Reach out to everyone in your network
- Use all of your social media platforms to share your fundraiser
- Share your progress along the way
- Thank your donors throughout your campaign
Hold a Mini-Event
- Host a mini-party - you could get creative and host a Virtual Party!
- Share your story - why are you fundraising for Wigs for Kids
- Choose a theme (costume party, movie night, celebrating a holiday such as St. Patrick's Day, a dinner party- possibilities are endless)
- Promote on your social media platforms
- Send out E-Invites
- Charge admission or take donations for admittance
- Have a silent auction or hold a raffle
- Secure a local musician or comedian to entertain- this is also possible to do through a virtual event
Check out this example- two sisters turned a party into a fundraiser for Wigs for Kids and called it Wig Fest. In 2020 they hosted Wig Fest virtually and raised over $5,000. Year one they hosted the party for fun for their friends, and as they were planning for the second year of Wig Fest they decided to turn into a fundraiser for Wigs for Kids while having fun with their friends!
Host a Charity Stream
- Let your followers know that you are hosting a Charity Stream event and ask them to share with their network-bring it to life!
- Share why you are fundraising for Wigs for Kids
- Consider donating a portion of the money you receive through advertising (if you do)
- If you are donating your hair live stream your cut to raise awareness, excitement and fundraising
- If you are a gaming streamer, host a competition
- Be sure to share the results and thank participants
Join streamers like LavaDaysickle and Commander Xander - who both did fundraising for Wigs for Kids. Lava raised $1,500. Lava created a "timer" for the automods/bots which helped him in his Twitch chats to post about Wigs for Kids and the fundraiser being hosted.
Secure a Corporate Matching Gift
- Some businesses have matching gift programs
- If your employer has such a program, ask them if they will match the amount of pledges you receive through your fundraising activity

Host an "Extra Change In My Pocket" Box Drive
- Recruit your friends, family and co-workers to agree to participating in a coin collection (it adds up quickly)
- Provide them with collection boxes (time to get creative!)
- Set a timeframe to hold the drive
- Share on social media the opportunity for people to get involved
- Provide updates
- Ask area stores, hair salons and restaurants if they would host a coin collection
- Be sure to thank everyone who participates
Host an Online Fundraiser for a Special Occasion (like your birthday or in honor of someone)
- Share with friends and family that you are hosting an online fundraiser for a special occasion and ask for donations instead of gifts
- Using this online platform create your own personal fundraising page- share pictures of past birthdays or celebrations and be sure to share your story-why you have chosen Wigs for Kids
- Be sure to use social media to promote that you are hosting an online fundraiser
